In the past couple of decades, our nation has been under several threats from natural calamities. Therefore, it is important to protect yourself from such disasters by finding a safe shelter, whether it is at work, home or school. The main purpose behind getting a safe shelter is that the building not only absorbs the shocks but is also a state-of-the-art structure. An earthquake resistant building, one is able to save the property from damage, injuries, and lives that accrue in the event of an earthquake. A safe building is necessary especially in areas that are prone to hurricanes or earthquake fault line.

Characteristics of an earthquake-resistant residential complex

Before investing in any new real estate project, make sure that the residential complex you are planning to invest in is earthquake resistant by observing the following characteristics:

  • Check if the property developer has received certification from the Indian Green Building Council Board (IGBC) for building that particular complex. This certificate means that the project is not only safe to reside in but it is also eco-friendly.
  • The design of buildings is flexible and light. This type of design helps the building to absorb and distribute the energy of their movement during an earthquake.
  • The sky-high buildings that are earthquake resistant will always use Reinforced Concrete Cement (RCC) in its construction, have simple patterns for different floors, and will be designed by well-qualified and experienced engineers.
  • If you are planning to invest in a residential complex that is in an earthquake-prone area, make sure that the complex has light walls and partition. Thin concrete floors are also helpful. Shear walls with a paneling system and braces channeling a side-to-side force downwards into the foundations of the building also make the construction earthquake-resistant.
